✨💰Maria Mojo Mondays: Your Money Story Is Silently Controlling Your Income
The beliefs you carry about money shape your income more than your effort.
Dear Mindset Maverick,
I am going to say something bold right out of the gate.
Your money story is silently controlling your income.
Not your talent.
Not your intelligence.
Not your work ethic.
Your story.
If your first reaction to that sentence is, “That cannot be true,” that is exactly why this conversation matters.
Most people never question the beliefs they carry about money.
They simply live inside them.
The Story Usually Sounds Like This
Money is hard to make.
People will not pay that much.
I just need to work harder.
I have to struggle to get ahead.
There is never enough.
These may sound like casual thoughts.
They are not.
They are instructions.
Your brain hears those stories and goes to work proving them true.
It filters opportunities.
It hesitates on bold decisions.
It keeps you playing smaller than you are capable of.
Then the same result appears again and again.
And people say, “See? I knew it would not work.”
Meanwhile Someone Else Tells A Different Story
Two people can walk into the exact same situation.
One sees limitations.
The other sees possibility.
One tightens up around money.
The other expects money to circulate.
Suddenly opportunities start appearing.
New clients.
Unexpected referrals.
Creative ideas.
Raises.
Doors opening where there were walls.
That is not luck.
That is alignment.
Here Is Something I See Often
Some of the people who struggle most with their money story are not broke.
They are successful.
They earn good money.
Yet deep down they feel they should be further ahead.
They know they are capable of more income, more freedom, and more abundance.
But something invisible keeps holding the ceiling in place.
That invisible ceiling is almost always the story they carry about money.
The good news is that money stories are not permanent. They are learned patterns, which means they can be rewritten.
Maria Mojo Coaching Tips
If your disempowering money story has been running quietly in the background, here are three simple ways to begin shifting the energy around it.
1. Catch the story.
Pay attention to the first thought that shows up when money enters the conversation. That thought often reveals the belief shaping your financial reality.
2. Upgrade the narrative.
Instead of reinforcing limitation, start asking a different question:
“What if money could flow more easily than I have allowed myself to believe?”
Your brain responds to the questions you ask it.
3. Practice receiving.
Notice how comfortable you are with compliments, generosity, or unexpected opportunities. The way you receive small things often reflects how open you are to receiving bigger ones.
These shifts may sound simple, but they can completely change the way you interact with money.
And when that interaction changes, your results often follow.
You may also want to start paying attention to the subtle ways a lack mindset shows up around money.
It often appears in everyday language and habits that seem harmless but quietly reinforce scarcity.
I hear things like this all the time:
One client once told me:
“I have to guard my savings like a dragon guarding gold.”
Other versions show up like this:
“I swear money goes out as fast as it comes in.”
“Money is such a problem.”
Statements like these may feel casual, but they reinforce the exact reality people say they want to change.
Your words shape your expectations.
Your expectations shape your decisions.
And your decisions shape your financial results.
Be curious about the language you use around money.
It may reveal more about your money story than you realize.
