Maria Mojo Mondays: The Moment You Actually Decide

Why nothing changes until you cut off every other option

Dear Mindset Maverick,

Let’s talk about something most people think they are doing… but actually aren’t.

Deciding.

Not thinking about it.
Not considering it.
Not “getting there.”

Deciding.

The word decision comes from the Latin word decidere.

It literally means:
👉 to cut off

When you decide, you cut off every other option. Every backup plan. Every “maybe.” Every version where you stay exactly where you are.

That’s why real decisions feel uncomfortable.

Because you are no longer leaving yourself an escape route.

There was a moment in my life where I made a real decision.

Not about my career. Not about corporate.

About my health.

When I was diagnosed with MS, I was told I would be on medication for the rest of my life. That was the expectation. That was the “only way.”

And at the time, I started the medication.
(The neurologist actually told me he wouldn’t treat me if I didn’t go on one of the three drugs he was recommending.)

In that moment I chose the best drug based on my research.

But even then… I knew that was not going to be my story.

I made a decision early on. A real one.

That one day, I would be drug free.

No backup plan. No “we’ll see.” No leaving the door open.
No attachment to the WHEN. (<== This is a biggie!)

I didn’t know HOW it would happen.

I just knew I wasn’t available for any other outcome.

I truly made a decision - it was a done deal before I saw any proof that it could happen.

And I lived my life that way.

I followed my intuition.
I made big moves.
I even moved clear across the country because something in me knew I needed to be on the West Coast.

Four years later… I had a reaction to the medication.

And that was it.

I was done.
(Even though the neurologist told me I should go on one of the other drugs.
Even though, she insisted if I didn’t go on another drug, I would have to.)

This year marks 20 years.

20 years DRUG-FREE.

Exactly what I decided would happen.

And here’s what I know now.

The moment you actually decide… something shifts.

Not because you suddenly have the plan.

But because you are no longer available for anything else.

Once you decide, the pieces come together to make that decision your reality.

And that is the part most people miss.

They don’t decide.

They stay in:

“I’m thinking about it.”
“I’m working on it.”
“I’m trying to figure it out.”

But nothing changes.

Because nothing was ever cut off.

You don’t need to know HOW it’s going to work.

That comes later.

The shift happens first.

Clarity follows.
Opportunities follow.
Movement follows.

But only after the decision.

So let me ask you something.

Where in your life are you still “considering”… instead of really deciding?

Where are you leaving the door open… just in case this version of your life is the one you stay in?

Because the moment you actually decide… you step into a completely different energy.

And from there?

Everything starts to move.

Wishing you a week where you stop leaving that door open
… and start deciding.
