Maria Mojo Mondays - Burnout Lies We Tell Ourselves

The thoughts that exhaust you aren’t always true. Let’s fix that.

Hey Mindset Maverick,

Burnout doesn’t always look like crying on the bathroom floor or rage-quitting your job.

Sometimes it looks like:

  • Smiling in meetings while silently screaming inside

  • Saying “I’m fine” when your body is anything but

  • Pushing through, performing, pretending - just to make it through another day

But behind every form of burnout, there’s usually a lie we’re telling ourselves.

A quiet belief.
A sneaky script.
A toxic little narrative that’s stealing your peace and draining your energy.

Today, we’re calling those lies OUT - and rewriting them with truth, power, and self-respect.

🧨 “This is just how life is.”

The Truth:
No. This is how a misaligned, unsustainable life feels.
And you don’t have to stay in it.

Let me say that again … you DON’T have to stay in it!

🧨 “If I just push a little harder, I’ll catch up.”

The Truth:
You don’t need to push - you need to pause.
Burnout isn’t fixed with more pressure. It’s healed with more clarity and boundaries.

🧨 “I should be able to handle this.”

The Truth:
You weren’t meant to carry it all.
Resilience isn’t about enduring forever - it’s about knowing when to let go.

Letting go can become your superpower. Letting go of things that do NOT work for you anymore. Letting go of old beliefs that hinder your wellbeing. Letting go of people and workplaces that are toxic. Letting go is a super powerful self-care tool to improve the quality of your life. Do NOT underestimate its power!

💥 Burnout Lies vs Empowering Truths

Burnout Lie

Empowering Truth

“This is just how life is.”

“This isn’t permanent. I’m allowed to want more.”

“If I push harder, I’ll catch up.”

“Rest creates clarity. I don’t need to hustle for my worth.”

“I should be able to handle this.”

“Support is strength. I’m allowed to ask for help.”

“I can’t make a change right now.”

“Small changes lead to big shifts. I get to choose again.”

“Everyone else handles it better.”

“Comparison is a lie and the thief of joy. I honor my own path and capacity.”

🗣️ Real Talk From One of My Clients

A brilliant healthcare provider came to me exhausted, resentful, and stuck in a spiral of depression. He felt drained at work, disconnected at home, and hopeless about the future.

But together, we uncovered the lies running through his mind:

“I can’t change this.”
“I just have to suck it up.”
“This is just how life is.”
“I have lost my passion for good.”

We rewrote the script.

And as a result?

He’s now more energized, connected to his purpose, tapped into that passion he once had that he lost, confident with money, and deeply present in his marriage.

His burnout didn’t mean he was broken. It meant he was overdue for a reset.

✍️ Quick Coaching Exercise:

Pick the burnout lie that hits hardest.
Now flip it into your truth.

Example:
❌ “I should be able to handle this.”
✅ “I deserve support. Asking for help is a power move, not a weakness.”

Write it down. Say it out loud. Let your nervous system breathe again.

Final Mojo Boost

Burnout doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you honest.
It means something in your life is out of alignment with who you really are.

It’s your soul saying,
“This version of life? This pace, this pressure, this pattern - it’s not working anymore.”
