Maria Mojo Mondays: A Birthday Week Done Differently
What I learned about joy, presence, and not letting small bumps steal the moment!
Hey, Mindset Maverick,
This past week, I did something that felt deeply nourishing.
I took my birthday week off.
No social media.
No marketing.
No coaching calls.
No content.
Just time with my wife.
Doing whatever the hell we wanted.
And let me tell you, that decision alone was a celebration.
As a business owner, my mind is constantly thinking and creating, but this past week … NOPE! I put my entrepreneurial mind on a shelf and just chilled.
✨ A Week of Presence, Not Productivity
One day, we went to the casino and then drove out to the Oregon coast.
We came home with $100 more than we went with, which in my book is a major win.
We didn’t gamble big.
We didn’t chase anything.
We played. We laughed. We enjoyed ourselves.
I even danced while we were playing the slots.
You know that phrase “Dance as if no one is watching”?
Yep, that was me and let me tell you - I was doing some interpretative dance moves. ;-)
Then came one of those moments you don’t plan.
We arrived at my favorite spot on the Oregon coast exactly as the sun was setting.
No strategy.
No timing it perfectly.
Just alignment.
If we had been five or ten minutes later, the magic would’ve been gone.
Instead, the sky put on a show.
I took photo after photo — another thing that brings me real joy — fully aware of how fleeting and precious that moment was.
💛 A Birthday That Didn’t Need “More”
On my actual birthday, we stayed home.
We made baked salmon with a sweet chili glaze
(paired with tator tots and garlic olive oil infused Kale)!
Put on music we love.
Danced around our house.
Laughed hard.
Laughed often.
No reservations.
No big plans.
No pressure to make it “epic.”
And it was perfect.
💡 Coaching Truth: Even Celebration Has Curveballs
Now here’s the real-life part I want to talk about.
During the week, I also had some exercise-related muscle tightness pop up.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing worth spiraling over.
But it was there.
And that’s important.
Because even during time off …
Even during celebrations …
Even during moments we expect to be highlight reels …
Life still happens.
And here’s the key:
It doesn’t have to mean anything. And it doesn’t have to throw us off course.
Instead of letting that discomfort hijack my birthday week, I did what I teach.
I created a custom, empowering affirmation for my body and repeated it often.
I reminded myself:
“This is temporary.”
I celebrated what was working.
I focused on the blessings I do have with my health and my life.
And no surprise here — I felt better.
Because attention is energy.
And energy always follows focus.
⚡ Coaching Insight: You Don’t Need a Perfect Life to Feel Good
This birthday week wasn’t about everything going flawlessly.
It was about:
Responding instead of reacting
Staying grounded instead of spiraling
Choosing ease instead of meaning-making
Letting joy exist alongside imperfection
I didn’t turn a bump into a dramatic story.
I didn’t let a moment define the week.
I didn’t go down the negativity rabbit hole.
That’s not luck.
That’s practice.
💬 Real Talk
This is what resilience looks like in real life.
Not forcing positivity.
Not pretending everything is amazing.
Not bypassing discomfort.
But navigating life’s curveballs with ease and self-trust.
And here’s the truth most people miss:
You don’t need a vacation, a birthday, or perfect circumstances to feel this way.
You need the tools.
You need the mindset.
You need the ability to shift your internal state — especially when things don’t go as planned.
💛 Your Mojo Invitation
Ask yourself this week:
Where am I letting small bumps steal my joy?
And what would change if I chose to respond with compassion, grounding, and perspective instead?
That shift alone can change everything.
⚡ Maria Mojo Boost
Celebration isn’t about perfection.
It’s about presence.
Joy isn’t about everything going right.
It’s about how you meet what shows up.
And peace?
Peace is a skill you can build — even in the middle of life.
💛 A Note From My Heart
If you’re reading this and thinking,
“I want more ease.”
“I want to stop overreacting.”
“I want to feel grounded even when things go sideways.”
“I want to live my life instead of managing it.”
This is the work I do.
And if this message spoke to you, there’s a good chance someone you care about needs it too.
Share it.
Forward it.
Or write back and tell me what landed.
Those notes mean more to me than you know.
With gratitude, joy, and a full heart,
Maria Mojo 💛
